Help in crisis situations at the Jagiellonian University

All of us have experience difficult moments in life sooner or later. Sometimes it turns out that others have also had similar problems. It is worth exchanging experiences on how to cope with crises.

If you need help, you can take advantage of the support offered by the Student Centre for Support and Adaptation (“SOWA”). It is worth visiting the Centre whenever you have an emotional or life problem that you cannot solve on your own. At the centre you can talk to the person on duty about your difficulties concerning mental health and negatively impacting your education, work or private life. The specialists working at SOWA are familiar with the specific nature of problems affecting students and they are bound by confidentiality.

Support is provided at the Centre as part of crisis intervention. The specialists working at SOWA are not therapists, but they provide help in solving the most urgent problems. Support obtained at the Centre will not substitute an appointment with a psychiatrist or psychotherapist, but it will help you find out whether you need such specialist help. If necessary, you will receive help in arranging an appointment with a psychologist or psychiatrist.

Support can be received at the Centre for free by all Jagiellonian University students.

Until 2018 there was a similar initiative at the Jagiellonian University called “Constellation Station” (“Constellation Leo”) implemented by the Disability Support Centre.

More information can be found on the website of the Student Centre for Support and Adaptation (“SOWA”).
