If you witness a dangerous incident that may pose a risk to life or health on the premises of a JU hall of residence, immediately notify: 

• the emergency services (ambulance, fire service, police); 
• the people in the closest vicinity;  
• the building administrator. 

Remember that every person living in a hall of residence has the obligation to follow the fire safety rules, leave the building if evacuation is ordered and go to the designated assembly point in accordance with the applicable Fire Safety Manual of the hall of residence. 

In situations that do not require the immediate intervention of emergency services, inform the porter or the supervisor on duty about the situation. 

If the situation requires a police intervention on the premises of the hall of residence, remember about the rules for calling the police to the JU premises. 

Every situation requiring an intervention by the police or emergency services should be notified to the staff of the Department of Security, Safety and Equal Treatment – Safe JU. The contact details can be found on the following subpage: contact. 

If any other person living, staying or working in the hall of residence commits a crime, harassment, sexual harassment, hate speech, discrimination on any grounds etc. in relation to you, contact the staff of the Department of Security, Safety and Equal Treatment – Safe JU. 

Every person living in a hall of residence is obliged to follow the Rules and Regulations of Jagiellonian University’s Halls of Residence and the rules of conduct in risk situations. 

For safety reasons, it is particularly forbidden, among others, to: 

• use firefighting equipment for purposes not related to fire safety; 
• use private heating appliances in the room; 
• smoke tobacco beyond the designated places; 
• keep a pet; 
• grow fungi, bacteria, viruses or dangerous plants; 
• modify the electrical, water supply and sewerage or gas system; 
• possess a gun or objects and substances that may pose a risk to human life and health. 

If you find that a person living or staying in a hall of residence breaches any of the above prohibitions or does not follow any other rules specified in the Rules and Regulations of halls of residence, notify the building administrator. 

In specified cases, including in the event of breaching the Rules and Regulations, non-compliance with the fire safety rules, hindering evacuation and violating the principles of social coexistence, the Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs may deprive any person of a place in a hall of residence.   

Remember that under specified circumstances, e.g. in the event of a suspected risk to life or health, suspected serious breach of the Rules and Regulations, technical failure, ordered evacuation or fire drill, a hall of residence employee may enter any room, even during the absence and without the consent of the people living there. The employees of a hall of residence, for safety and sanitary reasons, also have the right to remove personal belongings left in the common parts or bicycles left in places other than the designated ones. When a personal item or bicycle is lost in the common part, it is worth contacting the administrator to check whether they have not been moved by a hall of residence employee. 

Guests can be invited only with the consent of roommates and subject to the principles specified in the Rules and Regulations. The person inviting guests is responsible for their behaviour. Every guest is obliged to leave an identity document including a photo at the porter’s lodge or to present their personal card or passport and provide the basic personal details to the porter or supervisor on duty. 

In the event of conflicts and misunderstandings between you and other people living in a hall of residence, you can try to solve the problem in an amicable manner.

If the conflict cannot be resolved, having fulfilled the necessary formalities and obtained the consent of the hall of residence manager, you can apply for transfer to another room or hall of residence.  

If you believe that responsibility for the conflict lies entirely with another person living in the hall of residence, especially in the event of their breach of the Rules and Regulations, safety rules or rules of social coexistence, you have the right to submit a complaint with the hall of residence manager through the Residents’ Council or through a Representative of the JU Doctoral Students’ Society. 

You also have the right to submit complaints regarding the conduct of hall of residence employees with the manager and regarding the manager’s conduct to the Chancellor of the Jagiellonian University or to the Board of the “Bratniak” Foundation of JU Students and Alumni.
